Welcome! I am Assistant Professor of History at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. I specialize in American Indian history in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In 2016, I earned my Ph.D. in United States history from UNC Greensboro. Miss you, Europa Cafe! At the moment, I am working on a book manuscript that explores identity, politics, and leadership among the Southern Indians from the eighteenth to the early nineteenth centuries. I teach a range of history courses from a cross-cultural perspective, including the U.S. survey, American Indian history, Colonial North America, Antebellum America, and the Southeastern Indians.
Although my professional life is dedicated to research and teaching, I enjoy catching up on the latest TV shows, including Stranger Things and Castle Rock. I also enjoy spending time with my wife, Aisha, who, I am proud to say, kept her last name! Additionally, I'm an avid listener of electronic dance music, including progressive house, trance, and chillout. Heroes? Well, many: Abigail Adams and her son, John Quincy Adams, St. George Tucker, Tecumseh, Lucretia Coffin Mott, Ohiyesa/Charles Eastman, FDR, Lyndon B. Johnson, Malcolm X, Barack Obama, and most recently, Bernie Sanders. All were (or are) willing to take a stand for social, economic, or political justice in the U.S. and in our shared world.
